Gay Culinary Week San Juan, Puerto Rico

Gay Culinary Week June 10th to 17th 2024

at Coqui del Mar Guesthouse

Come join us in sunny tropical San Juan, Puerto Rico and learn how to cook typical Puerto Rican cuisine.

Monday June 10th:  Arrivals, greetings, barbecue and tapas from 330-430pm (no class…just come enjoy)

Tuesday June 11th:  Learn how to make habichuelas and white rice, like abuelita makes.

Wednesday June 12th:   Group trip to one of our favorite local Puerto Rican restaurants to get a feel for flavors of Puerto Rico.

Thursday June 13th:  Learn how to make tortilla español.  This is perfect for breakfast or cut up in bite size bits for tapas.

Friday June 14th: We’ll take it up a notch with Pastelon, a Puerto Rican type lasagna that has layers of cheese, ground beef and sweet plantains.  Even locals will be impressed.

Saturday June 15th: Tostones of platanos are the typical dish, but we’ll do this even more Puerto Rican style by using bread fruit (panapén or pana for short) with home made mayo ketchup, plus enjoy our Saturday barbecue.

Sunday, June 16th: You can’t leave Puerto Rico without learning how to make mofongo.  We’ll do a trifongo with some of the pana, plantains and amarillos.

Classes are $5 for guests and should be reserved at least 24 hours in advance via email to coquidelmar@gmail.com with your name and room name and dates of your stay.  Classes are for guests of Coqui del Mar and their invitees.  Guests will participate in making the typical Puerto Rican dishes, and enjoy the dishes after class.

All recipes are made with 1) healthier versions as much as possible 2) easy to make at home versions as much as possible 3) gay/bottom friendly as much as possible

Every participant will have access to the recipes online
