Map of gay-friendly restaurants in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

These may be gay or queer owned, or very gay friendly and exceptionally good.

AL Fresco

Sol y Cruz is a group of 3 restaurants though I have only visited the rooftop winebar, Al Fresco. Its a Spanish Tapas bar theme with cocktails and wines. The tapas are tasty and being on the terrace in Old San Juan is worth the meal in itself. There are few terrace restaurants in Old San Juan, and so far, this is my favorite.

Deau verdura

Deau Verdura is a reasonably priced restaurant with farm-to-table ingredients.  Try the cocktails with fresh local juices or the variety of locally sourced daily specials.

Jose Enrique

Jose Enrique is a must try restaurant for that special night out if you want a true high end Puerto Rican experience. Start out with some drinks at La Placita. Then, head to Jose Enrique for a gastronomic experience. No reservations, so show up at 7pm and see if you have to wait. It will be worth it.

Lote 23

LOTE 23 is really a collection of different high-end food trucks, with top names in Puerto Rican chefs, all in the same square, with giant Jenga games and frequently with live music. Tell us your favorites.

Made in Puerto Rico

Made in Puerto Rico is the newest spot serving up authentic, Puerto Rican cuisine. The ambiance is 100% Puerto Rico and you must see to appreciate. Large portions and reasonable prices make this a must try.

Mere Pescao (Mother Fish)

Mere Pescao is one of the newest additions to Calle Loiza.

Molini's Cafe

Molini’s Cafe is an intimate restaurant serving up a fresh menu daily (depending what David bought that day). Their menu is the chalkboard, with authentic Puerto Rican dishes at affordable prices. Splurge and try David’s homemade Sangria. Perfect spot for an intimate dinner or family meal.

Numero Uno Beach Restaurant

Numero Uno Beach Restaurant and Bar is literally, on the beach. If you want to sink your toes into the sand as you fine dine on Puerto Rican fusion cuisine, this is the spot. The back drop…Sunsets and the soothing sound of waves. Expect to spend about $50 or more per person with drinks.

Pinky's

Pinky’s is an old favorite for the Ocean Park neighborhood – it started with some surfers just trying to find some healthy food between sessions. They opened their own place, serving wrapts and smoothies. Its moved, reopened, and added to the menu but still the same Pinky’s at the heart. Great breakfasts as well.

Ostra Cosa

Ostra Cosa is gay-owned and occasionally hosts drag shows in the open and beautiful location in Old San Juan.  Alberto Nazario, the owner, has been a supporter of LGBTQ rights for years.  Excellent food in an open-air setting.  Try the liter of housemade sangria.

Cortez Choco Bar

Choco Bar Cortez is family-owned and run, and the LGBTQ family is welcome.  All items on the menu have cocoa bean as part of the recipe, from the hamburger to the martinis.  If you are a chocolate fan, this is the place for you.

Donostia

Donostia is a lesbian-owned breakfast and lunch spot with farm-to-table food, excellenty prepared.

Chueca

This is more bar, but this gay-owned gay bar Chueca does offer some food items, such as a generous charcuterie platter.

Marmalade

Marmalade offers high end cuisine that will cost, but is perfect for a special night out.  the tasting menu with parings is especially wonderful.

Bistro de Paris

Bistro de Paris is gay-owned with fabulously French cuisine that will make you feel like you are in Paris.

Casita Miramar

Casita Miramar is an experience not to be missed.  The house itself is beautiful with terraces, multi-level, meticulous detail and a very gay crowd.  The food and cocktails are excellent.

Trillorca

Food stand that specializes in Piña Coladas and Puerto Rican sandwiches.  Sergio is obsessed with making the best Piña colada, and you will tase the rum in it (he makes virgin ones as well).

Canon Club

Beautiful piano bar with restaurant and bar built-in.  Get reservations when there is a concert here and enjoy!  Locals tip:  Call the Gallery Inn to make a reservation at the Canon Club if there is no answer. 787-722-1808

Mrs. Potts

Unique bakery / restaurant with an obsession for good food.  They are open until 3pm every day.  I wanted to try everything on their menu.
